Brief History
The Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering at Fooyin University was established in 1994 and launched its graduate program in 2002. Being a vibrant teaching and research institution, the Department consistently accomplished the Top Level in the quadrennial evaluation required by the Ministry of Education in 2005 and 2010 as well as acquired accreditation recognized internationally in 2007,2013, certified by The Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan, a signatory of the Washington Accord for engineering education. Research in the Department focuses on the development of recycling technologies, soil and water remediation technologies and pollutants monitoring technologies. Our students are well-equipped with engineering knowledge and practical experience through comprehensive coursework and hands-on training. Majority of our graduates are employed in companies such as environmental consulting firms, pollutants sampling and analysis laboratories, waste-water treatment plants, and the division of environment and safety of high-tech industries.

Education Goals
Our education goals are to cultivate our students with ability for solving environmental problems in their future careers, awareness of responsibilities for the betterment of society and environment, and life-long learning attitude in their professional fields.

Development in Future
Our future development is featured in prospective technologies in three aspects: recycling, soil and water remediation, and pollutant monitoring. Specific study issues addressed for each featured research include:
(I)Recycling technologies: waste recycling, waste disposal characteristic survey and management, new waste-handling method and ecology resource management;
(II). Soil and water remediation technologies: high-tech water treatment, new sewage treatment system, soil and groundwater restoration, microcrystal characteristics, toxin decomposition and spreading in environment;
(III). Pollutant monitoring technologies: pollutant sampling and analysis, monitors development and applications, environmental information management, environmental policymaking analysis system, and environmental risk assessment.

 Careers
A variety of employment opportunities are available for the graduates in relevant business:
(I). Government departments such as Environmental Protection Administration or Agency, Taiwan Water Corporation, Sewage Systems Office, etc.;
(II). Environment-related companies such as consultant firms or private environmental analysis laboratories;
(III). Environmental and occupational safety divisions in high technology enterprises such as TSMC, UMC, AUO, CHIMEI, FPC, CSC, CPTT, CEC, Panasonic, etc.
